Art Nouveau “Orivit” Silver Plated Milk Jug and Sugar Bowl

I found this beautiful antique milk jug and sugar bowl that have retained their original silver plate. They are decorated with a gorgeous art nouveau flora, and what interests me the most is that they appear to have been created using a technique called “close plating” which is evident as you can see that some of the silver has pealed and also raised away from the surface.

Made by Orivit in Germany around the turn of the 20th century they still maintain their elegance and could be used in ways other than for their original purpose. One use that I find particularly charming is as a place to store your trinkets and jewellery. These stunning pieces are a must-have for any antique collector or lover of art nouveau.

As a side note when recently preparing them for their photos i had a strange haunting feeling as i polished them.
