Description

“Wahaika that over there would you” or “what the Wahaika was that”. Its a Maori Wahaika a traditional hand weapon of the natives of New Zealand. It gets better.
The club “patu” would have been originally made from the jawbone of a whale hence the “Waha” meaning jaw and “ika” meaning fish (well those natives back then didn’t really know their whales from fish “look at the bloody great big fish”).
The abalone shell “ruru” eyes on the “tekoteko” which is the carved creature on the club represent wisdom, and the creature itself represents strength and protection. The patterns which are called “karu” represent a new beginning (yes, just how you might feel after you Wahaika the missus, I am joking you know, the missus is alright.) So then, thats a tekoteko ruru from him and wahaika patu karu from me.
I was enjoying all the above so much i almost forgot to add that it shows a little wear but honestly, its so cool i really don’t care. Wahaika!
