Description
The craftsmanship is striking, smoothly carved contours, quality hardwood, and a neat fit between the two halves. It closely resembles figural corkscrews attributed to A. Lancel of Paris, a maker known for their finely sculpted bar accessories in the 1930s and 40s. While this piece is unmarked, the style and construction suggest it may have come from the same design lineage.
As for the exact date and origin, I’ll admit I’m a bit baffled. My best guess would be the anywhere between the 1930s all the way to the late 1960s, but it is French judging by the styling and information i gathered. I did quite a bit of research on this and I could only find two other similarly constructed pieces, which leads me to believe these are relatively rare. Whether a collector’s gem or a one of a kind display piece, this pig is definitely a conversation starter.
