In stock
Beautifully finished wood carving of a Padaung woman wearing neck rings by an artist of Inle Lake Myanmar.
Description
The Padaung (meaning long neck) Kayan tribe of Northern Thailand are on the decrease unfortunately along with the practice of elongated necks using neck rings, making this superbly finished wood carving quite unique. Now i am not sure whether you might find one these in Thailand but i do know that they are sold in the markets of Inle Lake in Myanmar which is where I believe this carving came from as she is signed on the back of her head with a symbol which originates from an artist who works in Inle Lake. It’s been superbly finished and is a fine example of indigenous wood carving art.
